Tyler, William of Kingsbury, Charlotte Co.

Memorial New Carlisle 1786. He was driven from Kingsbury and joined Burgoyne's Army at Skenesborough in July 1777. He was sent several times from Stillwater to Ticonderoga with despatches and twice taken prisoner up to October 1777, he was then taken a third time and held in close confinement for nine months and released on bail for two years. When he came to Canada, he had to pay £25. He joined the King's Rangers as Lieut. in April 1780 at St. John and served under Maj. Rogers.

Claim for a house and 242 acres on a 999 year lease bought from D. Dunham, E. Dunham, and E. Besse; cattle, etc.

Evidences: Deposition 15 March 1786 New Carlisle by Andrew Naughton that he lived at Windsor, NY, within four miles of the claimant, from 1772 to 1775: the claimant traded as a merchant but then purchased a house and sawmill which he let when he removed to Kingsbury in February 1776. Depostition of the same date and place by Richard Chamberlain that he was sick at the claimant's house in 1776 and spent a month there: the claimant's wife told him she had been stripped of everything by the Americans.
